What is Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana?
The Honourable Chief Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has launched this impactful farmers’ welfare program known as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana on 16th February 2016. Under this scheme, the Government aims to provide financial support and insurance coverage to farmers suffering crop loss or damage arising out of natural calamities (drought, floods, cyclones, hailstorms, pests, and diseases). This initiative encourages farmers to adopt modern and innovative agricultural practices, along with stabilising the income of farmers, so that they can do proper farming. The Government has increased the budget for the implementation of this scheme to 69,515 Crores. And about 23 crores of farmers have received financial claims under this scheme.
